Waimea Herb Company’s Seed Share Program: Growing Stronger, Together

At Waimea Herb Company, we believe the best things in farming and in life are shared. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our Seed Share Program, a new initiative built to support the farmers in our supply network by keeping valuable seeds, cuttings, and young plants in circulation.

Whether it’s an extra handful of seeds or a grove of banana keiki that needs a new home, we want to make sure nothing goes to waste and everything has the chance to grow.

What Is the Seed Share Program?

The Seed Share Program is a resource-sharing initiative that allows farmers in our network to give and receive surplus seeds and plants. It's designed to reduce waste, encourage crop diversity, and support each other through the ups and downs of seasonal farming.

Here’s How It Works:

  • Share What You Have
Farmers with extra seeds, plant starts, or trees (like herbs, vegetables, or bananas) can contribute them to the program. We’ll coordinate the collection and work with our local nursery partner to handle germination and care.

  • Grow Together
Once the seeds are started or the plants are stabilized, they’ll be offered to any interested farmers in our supply network completely free of charge.

  • Nothing Goes to Waste
If any plants go unclaimed by our farmers, they’ll be sold through the nursery to the wider community, helping diversify local gardens and bring additional revenue to a trusted partner!

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about sharing seeds. It’s about strengthening the ties that make farming in Hawaiʻi sustainable. Supporting each other, reducing unnecessary purchasing, and planting new possibilities across the islands help to ease the anxiety around trying something new. In our pilot program, we've already been able to plant over 50 new starts with farmers across the island, generating both extra income and new confidence in growing crops they have never tried before!

By working together, we create more than just healthy harvests. We create a healthier system.

Mahalo to every farmer who’s already helped bring this idea to life. Let’s keep growing together!
